Here are some useful FREE online resources you might want to refer to for various techniques and ocular diseases
Screening
- Pupils
- Conceptualise RAPD and how different gradings of RAPD can look like. It should be noted that the video grades RAPD as mild, moderate and severe whereas we currently grade on a +1 to +4 grading, but it is still a good representation of what to look for.
- Oculomotility
- Another really helpful youtube video is this one explaining Parks 3 step test which allows you to determine which EOM is causing the vertical diplopia.
- AC/A ratio
- A helpful video explaining what the AC/A ratio measures and understanding the results that you get. (This youtube channel also has other useful optometric videos).
Gonioscopy
- The atlas of gonioscopy is a really useful resource with has a library of gonioscopy videos of different angles.
Optic nerve head assessment
- The GONE project is a really useful way of practising your optic nerve assessment, especially when first transitioning from purely theoretical learning to actual placements.
OCT
- OCT images, with an emphasis on AMD
- A complete list of Ocular Diseases with OCT
Dispensing
- Vertometer
- A useful youtube video explaining step-by-step how to measure prisms in spectacle glasses using a manual vertometer
Calgary Guides (Diseases)
- A compendium of flow-charts that link disease pathophysiology and disease manifestation. The flow-charts explains the disease in a step-by-step, logical manner, making it easy to understand. Use this to revise and study for exams!
Chairside reference
- The centre for eye-health have a number of FREE chairside references on diabetic retinopathy, corneal ectasia, glaucoma medications for optometrists and many more. These are super useful summaries that are great to refer to in clinical placements.
Referral guidelines
- RANZCO referral pathway guidelines for AMD, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma are also really useful to help you determine when you should refer a patient to an ophthalmologist.
